Jack has asked:
If you had an operatic voice, what would be your dream role to perform onstage and why?
Realizing how hard it will be for any opera fan to name just one dream role, the Opera Lounge will accept up to three dream roles per person. But remember, you have to tell us why this or that role fascinates you that much.
Something is telling me that we are about to get lots of great responses!
Cheers!

1. Rosina in "Barber of Seville." Because she's such a fun, feisty character and sings such spectacular music.
2. Madame Butterfly. Because her opera was one of my earliest favorites, because her role is so rich and magnificent, and because unlike so many of the other great tragic opera heroines, her suffering comes from being abandoned rather than abused. I don't think I could emotionally handle the money scene in "Traviata" or being manhandled and murdered by Don Jose in "Carmen".
3. Pamina in "The Magic Flute." Because it's my username, it was my first opera, and I'd like to give her some depth and strength onstage.
Fabulous, Pamina - thank you! One way or another there is a Rosina in each and every one of us. Therefore, Rosina will always remain opera lovers' utmost favorite.
My son loves Madama Butterfly. He watches Minghella's production over and over again and calls it "Mama Butterfly".
To me personally, it is the most heartbreaking role of all.
1. Peter Grimes. It's in the right range for my voice and may just be the most complex, ambiguous character in the whole repertory. And the music...
2. Loge. The most interesting character in the Ring.
3. Tito. Best Mozart tenor role.
Excellent choices, John. I am working on my dream roles comment as well.
Stay tuned, everyone!
Jack, what about your own dream roles?
Musically speaking:
1. Count Almaviva. Cessa di più resistere. That is all.
2. Pollione. To rescue it from the almost Verdian treatment it is getting. If I had a voice that somehow married Gedda's, Corelli's and JDF's... God... they would retire this role after I died. :)
And I'd talk in recitative for the rest of my life. :P
3. Salome. Don't judge me. :P
Mo, I agree about Cessa. If one has the voice for it, that is all he needs.
Great choices, and no judgement whatsoever.
On another note, your writing is quite impressive.
