Where is Handel?

When Troy is away from home, even if for just a short time, he misses his toys, books and the piano. Having returned from a sleepover at my mom’s house, he ran up to the piano, pushed a couple of keys, grabbed this book, (still one of his favorites) and asked me to read it. So I did, simplifying the vocabulary just a little as usual.
And then I did something weird that most toddlers’ parents do for reasons unknown even to them: a much unneeded reality check. ‘Troy, I asked, where is Handel?’
Troy closed the book and pointed to the picture of Handel on the cover. Then he looked around the living room, saw this book on the piano sheet music stand and pointed right to it.
To be honest with you, I never told him it was Handel. He just figured that out.

Now, do me a favor, you all. Remind me every
once in a while to quit doing those reality
checks. He knows where Handel is: pretty
much all around our house.
