I could tell right away he really liked Le Nozze! That is love at first sight, my friends, since the day he heard that Chicago Lyric broadcast earlier this month. Back then he favored, expressed most excitement about, and even sang Deh vieni non tardar along with Danielle Deniese. (On our CD the incredible Susanna's aria is sung by Hilde Gueden, whose voice sounds like a crystal bell. Cheesy to say that, I know. Cheesy, but true.)
Now he heard it again and loves it. He demands to listen to it over and over again. He claps almost every time it's finished and laughs quietly and happily when he hears it. And who could blame him? It's beauty. Pure. Unmatched. In its essence. It's Mozart!
(Interesting choice though, I say. True, it's one of the best, but not the catchiest aria in the opera! It's not as catchy as Voi che sapete or Non pui andrai. It's a very melodic, but a much more subtle and complex aria. Yet, it's his favorite.)
Happenings like that really make my day.
